On April 15, 2008 we closed on a 1955 Mid-Century Modern home in Merriam, KS that was custom designed by the late Donald R. Hollis of Hollis + Miller Architects. We will be sharing our journey as we update the house to make it our own, while trying to stay as close to the original design as possible.

Well, we finished grouting the shower last week, but we have some minor touch ups to do before we can seal.  I managed to get the first coat of paint on last night, and hope to get the second one rolled out tonight.  Things are going slower than I had hoped, and what we brought back from our trip to Ohio this past weekend is going to slow us down even more.

We came back with a little fireball, an 8 week old lab puppy that we named Phoenix!  She is Katy's search and rescue Padawan.  Katy is tolerating her very well, and even tried to play with her once (those baby teeth hurt!)  We figure it will take Katy a few weeks to get used to the idea that she is not the youngest pup anymore.  Morgan has already warmed up to her and tried tugging with her.  But then again Morgan is used to being a big sister and protector.

  1. cute pic of the three pups, love all the black fur and three pink tongues! Welcome to the neighborhood Phoenix!

  2. It looks like you really have a LOT of work to do on this fabulous modernist house. I'll be following your restoration adventure. It's great to see that the modernist aesthetic is still appreciated.
